Tips for making photoshoots with children easier

Are you getting a little stressed out as your scheduled photoshoot creeps up? It can be stressful, but the most important thing is to let your photographer know. Most photographers are ready to help and ease that stress for you. When it comes to booking with me I want mama taken care of. Us mama's are always worried about everyone else before us.

The first tip is to schedule your photo shoot in advance! ( at least 4 - 6 weeks in advance ) Give yourself plenty of time to coordinate outfits and locations with your photographer. If these are Holiday photos, plan ahead. Those photographers out there are BUSSSSY! Early bookings allows for little hiccups (shipping delays, finding/coordinating outfits, etc.). It also relieves the stress, and remembers that is the KEY here!

The second tip is to try on outfits and lay them out (snap a photo + send it to your photographer). Once your outfits are picked and in hand, hang them and put them to the side for your big day!!

The third tip is sure to fill out questionnaires your photographer sends. Having more information about interests help photographers engage with the kiddos and allows the kids to open up a little bit faster.

Fourth tip session day essential things to do. I highly recommend that you all sit back and relax on the day of your session until it is time to get ready. Making sure kiddos get the naps they need is important and ensuring they get a good meal before your session is also essential. If your kiddo's bellies are full, they will be in a better mood!

Lastly, don't push for a shot. If a child isn't feeling it, the best thing is to give that child some time and move on to focus on another subject. I like to get on the kid's level and ask if they want to take a photo of mom + dad, and by doing that, they are gaining that connection, and I usually have kids willing to participate a little more. The key is to put less pressure on the kids!
